Each atlas is composed of 3 sections. The first section (Introduction) and third section (Appendix) describe the history of cartography and mapmaking techniques in general. In the second or major section (Theatre of maps) the history of a specific country is visualized via a range of maps from important mapmakers in different era’s. The document is made up of duo pages; the right page displays the map of a given period, the left page contains text describing its creator and other details. A complete sample e-Atlas is published on YouTube. The demo video gives an impression on how our concept is worked out. The linked sample, displaying the historic island of Malta, concerns a wmv-file with a reduced resolution to secure fast loading and viewing on the web.
